The story of David and Goliath speaks volumes of bravery and faith. Young David was brave and faithful enough to face a giant and defeated him with just one little rock. Do you have a “Goliath” in your life? A problem that seems huge or a fear that you can’t overcome? This amazing story of valiant David can show us how to face our problems and defeat them.
David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” ~1 Sam. 17:26
When David saw Goliath, he didn’t see an unstoppable giant, he saw Goliath as God sees him: a mortal man who was coming against the Almighty God. David wasn’t scared because he knew God would not let the enemy win.
We often see our problems as huge or massive, similar to how the Israelites saw Goliath. But we need to see them for what they truly are: temporary issues that God can defiantly take care of. The challenges in our way are from the enemy to discourage us away from what God has planned. Don’t let the devil win! Know that with God’s help you can overcome! I like to think about the statement, “Don’t tell God how big your problems are, tell our problems how big your God is!”
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came…36 Your servant has killed both… this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37 The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” ~1 Sam. 17:34-37
David knew that he was protected as he fought Goliath because he was fighting for God. God was on David’s side as he wrestled dangerous animals, so David knew God would also be by his side while he fought Goliath. David knew that as long as he was fighting for God, He would lead him to victory.
Has God told you to face your challenges but you’re still too scared? When standing up to “Goliath”, remember that God has called you to, and therefore He will help you. You may still be scared, but you can step out in faith knowing God is by your side. This way you can defeat your Goliath and overcome.
Remember that like David, you can stand up to your challenges. Anything that keeps you from God’s will is from the enemy, so God will help you and protect you as you fight your “Goliath”.
What is your Goliath?
